Arizona Medicare supplements are made available to individuals who are aging into Medicare at 65. People eligible for Arizona Medicare plans can get their supplemental coverage through a Medigap plan.
Each state has different rules about which Medicare supplements must be offered to all Medicare beneficiaries.
At a minimum, Arizona Medicare supplement insurance companies must offer at least Plan A to all beneficiaries age 65 and above. Beyond that, each company can choose which of the other standardized Medigap plans to sell. Some companies may offer only a few of the plans, such as Medigap Plan A, C and F. Others may choose to offer all of the Medigap plans.
Many of the insurance companies in Arizona offer issue-age policies. This means that your policy will be rated at the age that it was issued. You won’t have birthday rate increases because you are getting older. While all policies will usually still have annual rate increases for inflation, your policy will be based on the age you were when you purchased it.
There are also some attained-age policies in Arizona. Our agency can compare rates for both and advise you on which one is the most cost-effective for you.
The best time to enroll in an Arizona Medicare Supplement will be during your open enrollment period when you are turning 65. This is a six-month window that begins on the first day that your Part B coverage is effective. During this window of time, you can enroll in any Arizona Medicare supplement without any restrictions on pre-existing health conditions. (After this period is over, you must answer health questions when applying for a Medicare supplement.)
Arizona Medigap plans do not include Part drug coverage. You can add a standalone Part D drug plan easily though. Our agency can help you find the one that offers you the best pricing for your medications.
