Virginia Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans
Medicare Supplements in Virginia have been standardized by Congress into 10 main plans, labelled A – N. There is also one high-deductible option. Each plan contains benefits for things not covered by Original Medicare, such as the Medicare Part A Hospital deductible. Many people who choose Medicare supplements gravitate toward plans that cover most or all of the gaps in Medicare.
For example, a Virginia Medicare supplement Plan F is the most comprehensive plan available. It covers all of the deductibles, coinsurance and copays that you would normally pay. Medicare pays it’s share and then sends the remainder of the bills to your supplement carrier. Other popular plans include Plan G and Plan N.
The best time to enroll in a Virginia Medicare supplement is during your open enrollment window. This window occurs once, and it starts with your Part B effective date. You have 6 months from that date to enroll in any supplement plan without having to answer health questions. If you have pre-existing conditions that you are concerned about, your open enrollment window will allow you to enroll with no fear of any problems.
Medicare supplements do not include retail drug coverage, so most people also set up a standalone Part D drug card to go alongside their Medigap coverage. If the cost of Medigap and a Part D card are difficult for you , then another option would be Virginia Medicare Advantage plans.
