Connecticut Medicare Plans
The Benefit Link works with a variety of Connecticut Medicare Plans, including Medigap and Medicare Advantage options.
It’s helpful to first learn how your Original Medicare benefits work before you start reviewing your Medicare supplement plan options.
Connecticut Medicare Supplements
Medicare Supplement in Connecticut are the same as most other states. Medicare Supplements are standardized so that you can compare them easily. Plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N. There is also one high deductible Medigap option.
Connecticut Medicare supplements fill in the gaps in Original Medicare. Your Part A and Part B have deductibles, copays and coinsurance that you will pay if you do not have Medigap coverage. Medicare also only covers about 80% of your outpatient expenses. This includes things like doctor visits, lab-work, diagnostic imaging, ambulance rides, surgery, chemotherapy/radiation and dialysis. No one wants to pay 20% of these items which could be thousands of dollars.
Fortunately you can buy a Connecticut Medigap plan to cover these items for you. Plans F, G and N are very popular nationwide. Plan N is an especially good buy in Connecticut because state law prohibits doctors there from charging excess charges. Plan N premiums are cheaper because you agree to pay your own Part B deductible, doctor copays and excess charges. You wouldn’t need to worry about excess charges unless you treat out of state.
At The Benefit Link, we have a powerful quote engine which can compare all of the plans from all of the insurance companies. We can tell you who has the lowest rate for the Connecticut Medicare supplement that you want. We can also review their rate increase histories and financial ratings so you can make a wise choice.
Connecticut Medigap Open Enrollment – Year Round
In most states, when you first enroll in Medicare Part B, you will have a 6 month open enrollment window. This is a ONE-TIME window that expires after 6 months. During this window, you can enroll in any Medigap plan with no underwriting. You cannot be penalized for pre-existing conditions. You will not have to answer health questions. This is considered the best time to enroll in a Medigap plan.
However, in Connecticut they offer year round open enrollment for Connecticut Medigap plans. There is no medical underwriting ever, so you can sign up for one at any time and know that you’ll be approved.
Some people continue working past age 65. Their Medicare coordinates with their employer group health coverage. If you do this, you won’t have to worry that later on you’ll need to answer health question. You can sign up for your Connecticut Medicare plan any time.
