2025 Medicare Changes

Learn more about important changes to your Medicare plan

January 1 - March 31 of 2025

General Enrollment Period (GEP)

If you missed your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), you can enroll in Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) during this time. Your coverage will begin the first day of the month after you sign up. You may also choose to join a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, with or without prescription drug coverage.

Late Enrollment Penalties

  • If you are not eligible for premium-free Part A, you may have to pay a higher premium for late enrollment.
  • A late penalty may also apply to Part B if you did not sign up when you were first eligible.

Starting January 1, 2025, if you must pay for Part A and sign up for Part B during this General Enrollment Period, you will also have the option to enroll in a Medicare drug plan (Part D). Your drug coverage will begin the month after your plan processes your request

If you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C), you have a one-time opportunity during this period to:
  • Switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan (with or without drug coverage).
  • Drop your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare (Part A & Part B). You can also enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan if needed.

October 15 - December 7 of 2025

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

During Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), you can make changes to your Medicare coverage. Any changes you make will take effect on January 1 of the following year.

You can:

  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan.
  • Enroll in or change a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D).
  • Switch between Original Medicare and a Medicare Advantage plan.

This is the best time to review your Medicare coverage options to ensure they still meet your healthcare needs.
