Depending on which plan you choose, you will generally have very little out-of-pocket. You may sometimes here Medicare supplements also referred to as Medigap plans.

There are 10 standardized Medicare supplements plans in Nevada. Each Nevada Medigap plan has a set of standardized benefits. This allows you to compare plans easily. A Nevada Medicare Supplement Plan F has the same benefits no matter which insurance company you choose.

Most Nevada Medigap plans cover the 20% of outpatient expenses that Medicare doesn’t pay for. Several plans also cover your Part A and/or Part B deductibles.

Medicare supplement plans in Nevada have an open enrollment period. This is a period when you can enroll into any Nevada Medicare supplement plan you choose. You will not have to answer any medical health questions.

This period occurs when you first turn 65 or whenever you join Medicare Part B, whichever happens first. The open enrollment window continues for 6 months after the Part B effective date.

Enrolling in a Nevada Medicare Supplement during this time is easy. If you miss this window, you can still apply for coverage, but must submit to medical underwriting. The insurance company can decline you based on heath history.

Some people still have large employer insurance because they have decided to work past age 65. As long you maintain this creditable coverage, you can apply for a Medigap plan without health questions later on when you retire. You’ll have 63 days from the time your employer coverage ends to elect any of the qualifying Medicare supplements in Nevada with no health underwriting.

Nevada Medigap Plan F

Medigap Plan F in Nevada is a popular seller because it covers all your deductible, copays and coinsurance that Medicare itself does not cover. This creates first-dollar coverage where you will owe nothing for any Medicare-covered services. You can also see any doctor that accepts Medicare, regardless of which insurance company you purchase your supplement from.

Some savvy shoppers will also compare rates for Nevada Medigap Plan G. This plan covers similar services as Plan F, but is slightly cheaper because it does not cover the Part B deductible. Often the premium savings is more than the deductible, so you can come out ahead financially by choosing this plan.

Another reason why consumers might want to consider Plan G is that Plan F is going away in 2020. New enrollees at that time will not be able to purchase Plan F. Some people are concerned this might drive up the rate increases for Plan F in the future. Enrolling in Plan G is an easy way to avoid that.
