4 Most Common Medicare Insurance Questions, Answered!

Many people have the same questions about their Medicare coverage. Below, we address the four most common questions we encounter to help clarify your Medicare options.

1. Does My Doctor Accept This Medicare Supplement Plan?

One of the most frequent concerns is whether a specific doctor accepts a Medicare supplement plan. The answer is straightforward: if your doctor accepts Medicare, they will accept any standardized Medicare supplement. This holds across all standardized plans, making it easier to maintain your preferred healthcare providers.

2. Can I Change My Medicare Supplement Plan Mid-Year?

A common misconception is that you can only change your Medicare supplement plan during the annual enrollment period in October. In reality, you can change your Medicare supplement plan at any time during the year, provided you meet the necessary qualifications. The annual enrollment period is specifically for prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans, not for Medicare supplements.

3. Is Dental and Vision Coverage Included in My Medicare Supplement?

Another frequent question pertains to dental and vision coverage. Dental and vision services are not included in Medicare supplement plans. However, Medicare does cover vision care related to health conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, or diabetic retinopathy. Preventive vision care like routine eye exams, glasses, and contacts are not covered.

4. What is the Difference Between Plan F and Plan G?

There is often confusion between Plan F and Plan G, which are two of the most comprehensive Medicare supplement plans. Plan F covers everything 100%, including Medicare-approved expenses without any deductibles. Plan G also covers nearly everything but requires an annual deductible for Medicare Part B. It’s important to note that Plan F is no longer available to new Medicare enrollees after January 1, 2020. If you were eligible for Medicare before this date, you can still choose Plan F; otherwise, Plan G is the next best option.
